3 Fun Things You Can Do

40% of secondary school children identify that they would like to be an entrepreneur. And just like learning about financial literacy and compounding interest early has a bigger impact over time, so does learning about entrepreneurship.

Here are 3 activities your child can do over the school holidays that will help your child learn about entrepreneurship.

#1 Start A Candle Business

We've partnered with Andrea, a 12-year-old girl boss, who is inspiring other young entrepreneurs and helping them to start their own businesses.

She's created a Business In A Box bundle that has everything you need. It comes with candles, labels, worksheets and a shopfront on the DaintreeMarketplace. It's a great way to learn and earn about entrepreneurship.

#2 Create A Pitch And ENTER The First Pitch For Kids National Competition

Start by asking your child, "What problem would you like to solve?"

Creating a pitch is a great entrepreneurial activity filled with skills that children can use throughout their lives. Starting with problem identification and moving on to ideation and solutions and completing the process with persuasive speaking and communicating your solution.

We've made it super easy for you and your child. Have them watch some YouTube videos of what a great pitch looks like. Then have them download the FREE Pitch Template.

They will learn about:

  • How body language affects the message of a speaker.
  • How changing the emphasis of a word affects the tone of a public speaker.
  • How to you use body language, emphasis, tone, and humour in your pitch.

Next have them create their own pitch. We recommend using Canva and their built in recording capability(and it's a great Australian startup) to tell their stories. If they want, they can also use YouTube, Vimeo or any other web based recording. All they need to do is to enter and submit their recording link at: www.firstpitch.com.au

#3 Start Your Own Business On The DaintreeMarketplace

The DaintreeMarketplace is Australia's only student marketplace. It's FREE and easy to use and a great tool for any budding young entrepreneur!

Do you have a business idea that you want to test out but don't want to sign up for a monthly subscription? Or do you have actual products that you want to sell?

The DaintreeMarketplace is like a 'sandbox for entrepreneurs' where you can test out your ideas.

If you are a maker and have something to sell or if you are looking to open up a 'chores-based' storefront for your services, the DaintreeMarketplace is a great space to start.

School holidays can be tough on parents. We hope that you find these activities fun and enjoyable!
